Safety Reminders

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Rules and Procedures

In order to ensure student safety and improve traffic flow, please review and follow the safety rules for dropping-off and picking-up students in the parking lot.

Where to drop-off and pick-up

Students are only to enter or exit the vehicle at the curb where the white hash marks are painted on the asphalt. DO NOT have students enter or exit vehicles anywhere else in the parking lot. This creates a safety hazard for our students. Do NOT get out of your car at any time.

Pull all the way forward to the next available space

Move all the way forward behind the car in front of you before allowing your child to exit/enter your car.
When a gap is left in front of a car, it slows the rate at which students enter or exit. This causes impatience and frustration to those behind the car, which has led some to bypass the car, which causes cars to be barricaded in. This, too, slows the rate at which students enter and exit.

Do not pass the car in front of you unless you have already dropped your child off in the designated area

Always follow the car in front of you and wait your turn in line. Do not move past the car in front of you to drop-off or pick-up your child. This causes increased congestion, confusion, and frustration. If everyone follows the rules above, this won’t be an issue.

Speed Limit

It is imperative that you drive no more than 5 miles per hour in the parking lot. Our students are small and difficult to see. Traveling faster than 5 miles per hour puts their lives at risk.

No talking on cell phones while driving

This is against California State Law and reduces attention to the safety of our students.

Sidewalk at the end of the parking lot

Cones have been placed from the park stairs leading to the school, creating a path for parents and student to walk without cutting through the traffic loop. It is encouraged and appreciated that students and parents use this route rather than walking in front of the school parking lot entrance. Doing so will increase traffic flow, and make picking-up and dropping-off our students much quicker and safer.

Bicycle Riders and Non-Motorized Scooters:

  • are allowed for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Permission slips are available on our website.
  • users are required to wear safety helmets.
  • are to be walked on school grounds.
  • need to be walked to the designated bike rack area and locked to the bike racks prior to the start of school.
  • need to ride in a safe manner. Bicycle or scooter privileges will be revoked from anyone who is not riding safely or not following school bicycle and scooter rules.

Skateboards, hoverboards and motorized scooters, roller blades and other shoes with wheels are not permitted as a means of traveling to or from school.

We appreciate your cooperation and adherence to the above rules and procedures. Student safety is the top priority at Monterey Ridge! We appreciate and anticipate your support.

Thanks for your cooperation! Remember -- Courtesy is Contagious!
